Local Folder Channel (Desktop)

The Local Folder channel is Desktop-only; it lets the AI read and write files in a folder on your computer.

1. AI Doesn't See Files After Setup

  • Settings → Channels → the Local Folder channel → Reset Index to rescan.
  • Confirm Desktop has read permission for the folder:
    • macOS: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Files and Folders → enable DYNARA for the folder.
    • Advanced locations (~/Documents, ~/Downloads, ~/Desktop) need explicit grants.

2. Cloud-Synced Folder Caveats

iCloud Drive, OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox:

  • Files may be placeholders (stubs) with no local content. When the AI reads one it forces a download — speed depends on your network.
  • Initial scan with many files can be slow; point the channel at a small, specific sub-folder.

3. AI Fails to Write / No File Produced

  • Confirm the folder is writable (not a read-only mount).
  • Confirm there's free disk space.
  • macOS SIP-protected paths (e.g. /System) aren't writable — use a user directory.

4. File Changes Not Detected

  • The channel relies on filesystem events; some network or virtual drives don't emit events, so the AI misses changes live.
  • Fix: in the channel, switch to Polling Mode to check every N minutes.

5. After Deleting the Channel, Folder Still Exists

  • Deleting the channel only severs DYNARA's link to the folder — it does not delete your local files.
  • Delete AI-authored files manually if needed.

6. Safety Tips

  • Don't expose all of ~/Documents to the AI; create dedicated sub-folders (e.g. ~/dynara-inbox, ~/dynara-outbox).
  • Don't place files with passwords, keys or personal data in AI-readable locations.
